Cumberland Main Street Relaunched as Nonprofit

Cumberland Main Street, the driving force behind the economic vitality and historic preservation of Cumberland’s downtown, has officially relaunched as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The transition empowers the organization to expand its community focused initiatives, pursue new grant funding and foster a broader local engagement, the group said via release. “This is a monumental step forward for our downtown,” said Abby Lindner, chair of the newly formed Cumberland Main Street Board of Directors. “Transitioning to a 501(c) (3) gives us the agility and resources needed to respond directly to the needs of our business owners, while still working hand-in-hand with our municipal partners to implement the strategies of the proven Main Street approach.”  While the administrative structure has changed, downtown visitors and residents will experience a seamless continuation of the organization’s core initiatives, the group said. Cumberland Main Street will continue to spearhead local economic development, organize community events and facilitate design improvements. “Our city government has been proud to support this organization’s incubation and growth,” said Mayor Ray Morriss. “Establishing this independent nonprofit structure is a best practice for downtown revitalization. It unlocks doors to private funding and volunteer participation that will ultimately benefit our entire community.” To learn more about Cumberland Main Street, visit https://www.cumberlandmainstreet.org or https://www.facebook.com/CumberlandMainStreet.
