The Arcadian Gallery is dedicated to showcasing art that reflects the beauty and complexity of the natural world. But what does “nature” mean to us? Our director and curator, Christopher P. Sloan, who was previously Art Director at National Geographic Magazine and served as Senior Editor specializing in Paleontology, Paleoanthropology, and Archaeology, shares his insights:
“When I talk about ‘nature,’ I’m thinking about it in the broadest sense. While I’m certainly interested in artwork depicting wildlife, landscapes, and seascapes, I’m equally drawn to pieces that explore aspects of nature that aren’t always visible or easily understood—such as dinosaurs, space, and microscopic worlds. There are few galleries interested in this sort of art.
I’m also looking for what I call ‘art for our sake’—works that bring attention to important issues like global warming, pollution, and habitat destruction. We have a special interest in artists who are willing to donate a portion of their sales profits to support conservation efforts and scientific research. We’ll match their donation.”
